Shiseido Art House, Kakegawa

I went to the Shiseido Art House last Sunday, 6th August 2023.  The museum is located near Kakegawa station in Shizuoka, Japan.  As expected, it was superb.  The 4th of the 'Craft for All of Us II' exhibition series.   The concept of the exhibition series is to propose to appreciate and use the beautifully made objects crafted by skillful masters.  The works of the masters are, to be honest, almost beyond our reach in terms of the price tags, but we can aspire.  My favourites are those by Imaemon and Nakajo Iori.   I was mesmerized by the works by Imaizumi Imaemon when I visited the former exhibition in 2019.  This visit has familiarized me with lacquered works with mother of pearl decoration by Nakajo Iori.  I wish one of them were mine.

The exhibition enables imagination and delusion to make everyday life more beautiful and of higher quality.   We should be proud of the Japanese craftsmanship and be glad to know Shiseido's invitation to be part of encouragement to promote arts and crafts.

I suppose this series of exhibitions and the museum should be more widely known.  Japanese and any foreigners will surely enjoy the exhibited objects and also the surrounding beauties there.   The exhibition is free of charge, incredibly.  Check the opening days before you visit.
